I stand for term limits, no more than 6 two year terms for the state legislature. It is pertained to note an amendment was included in a bill passed in 1991 which stipulates a legislator with 12 years of service may retire at age 50 or with 8 years at age 60. Therefore to stay within the parameters of the current state pension plan a 12 year term must be acceptable.
I believe many of our elected officials view serving in government as a lifelong career. Subsequently they begin positioning themselves politically for the next campaign as soon as they achieve an elected office instead of truly serving the people they represent. Their decisions and votes are not a reflection of the people’s wishes and desires; instead their votes are often determined by who will endorse their next campaign. I believe that term limits ensure honesty and integrity are maintained in representing the people. Our founding fathers never envisioned politicians serving in office for their entire life; holding office was to be a limited volunteer patriotic endeavor.
If elected, I will serve no more than four terms in the House of Representatives. I will support a bill mandating term limits of twelve years.
